James P. Cabrera

Co-Founder

In 1996, James P. Cabrera co-founded Antares with his partner, Joseph P. Beninati. Together, they have built Antares into a vertically integrated real estate development and private equity firm with properties totaling 10 million square feet. Antares employs approximately 120 professionals and has over $6 billion in assets under management. In 2007, Antares was ranked 226th on Inc. magazine’s list of the fastest growing U.S. companies, with a three-year growth rate of 1,008.7%.

In 1997, Antares was the founding investor in Greenwich Technology Partners (GTP), a 13-office, 600-person global engineering firm. Under Mr. Cabrera’s stewardship as head of sales and marketing, GTP saw a growth rate of 7,082% over a five-year period. Inc. magazine ranked it the 9th fastest growing U.S. company. Prior to founding GTP, Mr. Cabrera was regional president of The Galbreath Company, where he managed 350 people and nearly 5 million square feet of office space with an approximate value of $850 million. At Galbreath, Mr. Cabrera oversaw the real estate needs of Telos and began his working partnership with Mr. Beninati.

Mr. Cabrera was born in White Plains, New York, and grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut. He graduated from Choate Rosemary Hall, where, in 1982, he first met Mr. Beninati. Mr. Cabrera earned a bachelor’s degree from Duke University, where, in 1987, he was an all-American in lacrosse. After college, he began his career working for major real estate firms, including Edward S. Gordon.

Residing in Greenwich with his wife and three children, Mr. Cabrera is strongly rooted in the local marketplace. He’s a strong philanthropist and holds board memberships on the Greenwich Youth Football, Lacrosse, Basketball, and Soccer teams, which he also coaches. He also serves on the boards of the Waterside School, the Stamford Partnership, CTE, SoundWaters, the Arch Street Teen Center, and the Greenwich YMCA. In addition, he is a co-founder of the Greenwich High School Sports Foundation and the JCC Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Mr. Cabrera and Mr. Beninati have led Antares together for eleven years, maintained a business relationship for seventeen, and close personal friendship for over twenty-five.
